Cable Winding Dense Packs

L3 MariPro has been providing specialized cable and sensor packaging in modularized packs or bails since the early 1960s. The initial packs were utilized for deep-water moorings in up to 6,000 meters of water. Wire rope was wound with pre-twist onto a mandrel. The pre-twist provided a neutral payout from the center of the pack/bail. Individual packs range in cable size from 19 mm to 5 cm in diameter and include wire rope, synthetic line, electro/mechanical or buffered optical fiber cables in lengths to 40 kilometers. Packs can be assembled in series for longer distances. Packages include imbedded sensors, such acoustic hydrophones that are serially pulled out of the pack as the cable is deployed. These types of packages have been successfully deployed from Remotely Operated Vehicles "ROVs" and other platforms in the air, on the water and under the water.
